The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jana Ilham Aliyev, at the international forum on "COP29 and Green Vision for Azerbaijan" held at ADA University, once again talked about our economic successes and stated that we have already started investing in green energy projects together with our investors.

Historically known as an oil country, over the years, at the same time as an exporter of gas and electricity, Azerbaijan proved that building the economy on the right foundations is a key factor in ensuring sustainable development. Giving special importance to the oil factor in the development of the economy was the result of a visionary policy. The Great Leader Heydar Aliyev characterized the signing of the "Contract of the Century" in such a way that by taking this step, we demonstrate that Azerbaijan is a country open to the world and the world economy. By signing this agreement, we create relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the developed countries of the world, their largest companies, and create a basis for the joining of the Azerbaijani economy to the world economy and the free market economy. The signing of the "Contract of the New Century" in 2017, the official opening of the Southern Gas Corridor, which is regarded as the beginning of multilateral cooperation, in May 2018, TANAP, one of the main components of the project, in June of the same year, and TAP at the end of 2020 commissioning is the success of Azerbaijan's energy diplomacy. The expansion of TANAP and TAP is among the important challenges of the current era. Strengthening Azerbaijan's position as a reliable partner plays an important role in gaining new friends and partners.
Of course, it is not without reason that we take a brief look at them. The increasing role of Azerbaijan in ensuring the energy security of the world is also reflected in the number of signed documents. Thus, Azerbaijan's cooperation in the field of energy with the European Union and member states of the organization is obvious. Head of State Ilham Aliyev spoke about the successes of our country's energy diplomacy at the international forum on "COP29 and Green Vision for Azerbaijan" held at ADA University on April 23 with the participation of 64 representatives from 30 countries, and specially noted this important point that all our energy projects lead to cooperation. If you look at the countries surrounded by the Southern Gas Corridor today, you will see that relations between some of these countries are not good at all. But these projects unite them: "This is a common interest. There are no losers here, and in fact, the energy leads to peace. We know from history that oil leads to war and bloodshed. Now we are changing the paradigm and so far we have succeeded. Azerbaijan has been cooperating with international oil companies for 30 years. We were the first country to invite foreign companies to the Caspian Sea, and I think our future is even brighter. We will not stop using fossil fuels, we will not. But at the same time, we will focus on the green agenda."
Today, the oil country is making preparations to host COP29. Let's pay attention to the discussions around Azerbaijan's hosting. As Mr. Ilham Aliyev mentioned in his speech at the forum, as if it was our fault. My message to them was that it is not our fault that we are an oil country: "Look how we use these resources. First, see how we use these resources for the development of the country, poverty reduction, and fair distribution of wealth. Then see how we use it for infrastructure, green energy. So today we have stable oil and growing gas production, while at the same time we are developing green energy projects.”
The Memorandum of Understanding between the European Union and Azerbaijan on strategic partnership in the field of energy is being implemented. According to this Memorandum, Azerbaijan should double the volume of gas sent to Europe by 2027. The numbers already show that we are confidently moving towards this goal. Azerbaijan has very large-scale plans. The energy strategy of our country is successfully implemented. The projects proposed and implemented by Azerbaijan have greatly redrawn the energy map of Europe and Asia - Eurasia. Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Supsa oil pipelines today deliver Azerbaijani oil to the markets of the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea. The Southern Gas Corridor - a huge infrastructure project with a length of 3,500 kilometers - makes a huge contribution to Europe's energy security. Mr. Ilham Aliyev always states in his speeches that it is no coincidence that the European Commission and its high-ranking officials value Azerbaijan as a reliable partner and pan-European gas supplier.
Azerbaijan is, in the truest sense of the word, a reliable partner, always loyal to the traditions of friendship and highly values friendship. It is relations built on friendship, mutual understanding, and strategic partnership that ensure the interests of many countries, and cooperation in the gas field also creates a strong foundation for large-scale regional cooperation. He said that our gas supply to Europe should increase from 8 billion cubic meters in 2021 to 20 billion cubic meters in 2027: "This is not an obligation, it is a goal. We are moving towards this goal. This year, our gas supply to Europe will be approximately 12 billion cubic meters. This is 4 billion cubic meters more than in 2021."

They have some kind of phobia and I don't know how to explain it. They even oppose the word "corridor". They think that the corridor is a violation of sovereignty. When we talk about the North-South Transport Corridor passing through the territory of Azerbaijan, we have no such phobia. Corridor is a well-known international word and they lose their minds when they hear the name of Zangezur Corridor. In short, it's very strange. But I want to emphasize once again that we have to think about the future"
